After working for the World Bank and the African Development Bank, this Guinean-born lawyer will join Endeavour Mining between 2021 and 2024 as Director of Legal Affairs.
Gradute from the University of Dundee in Scotland, will be in charge of political relations with Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and Burkina Faso.
From Côte d'Ivoire to Senegal
Abdoul Karim Kabèlè Camara will be in charge of relations with Côte d'Ivoire, where Fortuna Mining operates the Séguéla mine, which produced around 120,000 ounces in 2024. The Canadian mining company is looking to expand in this country, with an exploration budget of over 14 million USD and the possible acquisition of part of the Tongon project currently operated by Barrick Gold. Senegal is also set to enter Abdoul Karim Kabèlè Camara's fold with the development of the Diamba Sud project. This will bring him into contact with Ousmane Sonko 's government, which is currently conducting an audit of contracts in Senegal's extractive sectors.
Challenge in Burkina Faso
If the winds seem to be blowing in favor of mining operations in Côte d'Ivoire, Abdoul Karim Kabèlè Camara will also be in charge of managing the burning issue in Burkina Faso.
On October 5, 2024, the President of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, threatened to withdraw mining permits. The Canadian company immediately tried to reassure its shareholders by publicly confirming that the government had no intention of withdrawing existing mining permits, and that Fortuna Mining's Yaramoko mine complies with Burkina Faso's laws. In operation since 2016, Yaramoko contributes a third of the Canadian company's total production, some 117,000 ounces out of 326,000. Relations with the government of Burkina Faso are therefore crucial for the Canadian mining company.
